Hugo Winner Book Review: Way Station by Clifford D. Simak

Originally published as Here Gather the Stars, this novel won the Hugo for best novel in 1964.

It starts with the premise of a man that appears not to age, a rather common plot in science fiction, but soon expands into a much more complex and interesting story.

The plot and characterization were excellent, and the author has a very readable and relaxed style of writing, which sometimes became quite poetic.

Stylistically, I found it much like Asimov and Clarke, two of my favourite authors. Simak, in fact was a friend of Asimov and an influence on him.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, was hooked after the first page, and read it over a weekend (the paperback was under 200 pages).
